If your loved one had a Facebook account, this is part of their digital assets which will need to be wound down as part of their affairs.

Facebook has two options for you to choose between for managing a loved one’s account.

Option one is to permanently delete it, while the second option is to request that it is memorialized. In order to request either you will need to submit a special request.

A memorialized account is a place for friends and family to share memories after a person has passed away. Facebook’s policy is to memorialize an account for someone who has passed away if a family member or close friend lets them know. The word “Remembering” will be shown next to the person’s name on their profile, and friends and family (depending on the privacy settings) will be able to share memories. If a legacy contact was chosen by the deceased while they were still alive, they will be able to manage the account. Read more about memorialized accounts on Facebook.
