If your loved one was a Yahoo Account holder, the following guidelines should help you shut down their account.

Closing the account is the only option for managing their account as Yahoo’s Terms of Use do not allow for the account nor its contents to be transferred.

To initiate the process for shutting down their account, the individual with the legal capacity to do so (the personal representative or executor of the estate), must mail the following documentation to the address listed below:

  • A written letter requesting the account of your loved one be shut down on account of their passing. Their Yahoo ID is necessary.
  • A copy of the document conveying authority to the requesting party as the personal representative or executor.
  • A copy of the death certificate of the account holder.

Once the documentation is received and processed, their account will be deleted, billing and services suspended, and the contents of their account permanently deleted.
